Korea Toray Science Foundation (KTSF, Chairman Lee Young-kwan, chairman of Toray Advanced Materials Korea) held the 4th Toray Science and Technology Prize and Research Funds at the Korea Toray R&D Center on October 21st.
The awards ceremony was held in strict compliance with quarantine rules such as wearing masks, providing hand sanitizers, and measuring body temperature to prevent coronavirus infection, with only a minimum number of winners, family members, and foundation officials attending.
The Science and Technology Prize was won by Cho Min-haeng, a professor at Korea University in the basic category, and Park Soo-young, a professor at Seoul National University in the application category, respectively, and won 100 million won in prize money and a plaque.
Yonsei University professor Lee Yoon-mi and DGIST professor Park Jin-hee were selected as the basis for the research fund, while KAIST professor Byun Hye-ryeong and POSTECH professor Jung Dae-sung were selected for application and receive research fund of 50 million won every year for three years.
Lee Young-kwan, chairman of the foundation, emphasized the importance of scientists' efforts and science to solve the problems facing mankind, and said he hopes to achieve greater achievements by focusing more on research in the future.
KTSF selects winners by publicly receiving science and technology awards and research projects every year, selecting eight science and technology Prize from 2018 to this year, and the research funds continue to support 12 teams.
