TAK is newly entering Carbon Fiber Intermediate 'Prepreg' business
Toray Advanced Materials Korea(TAK) will newly enter the prepreg business, an intermediate carbon fiber description, to increase the business synergy of carbon fiber composite materials.
TAK, the nation's largest carbon fiber maker, plans to accelerate the qualitative and quantitative growth of its carbon fiber composite business by completing SK Chemicals' acquisition of prepreg projects in Ulsan and Qingdao, China, for about 30 billion won and building the largest annual scale of 16 million square meters.
With this acquisition, the company plans to expand its supply chain to the midstream sector and solidify its system to strengthen global competitiveness in eco-friendly lightweight materials by expanding its supply chain at home and abroad.
Through this, TAK will actively respond to industrial fields such as wind power generation blades of eco-friendly energy as well as hydrogen cars, electric vehicles, and urban aviation mobility (UAM) by supplying high-performance, high-quality carbon fibers and processability.
Carbon fibers and prepregs produced in Gumi and Ulsan will expand exports as well as domestic demand, respond to the Chinese prepreg market centered on Qingdao, and focus on developing uses and supporting technology services to provide optimal solutions for complexation and weight reduction through Advanced Composite Materials Technology Center.
In the future, TAK plans to further expand its carbon fiber composite material business by combining strategic collaboration with front and rear industries in the carbon fiber composite material field and developing various uses in the automobile, environment, energy, aircraft, and sports fields.
TAK is equipped with products with different strengths and elasticity, from carbon fiber fabrics to fabrics, paper, pellets, Chopped fibers, Milled fibers, and laminates, responding to a wide range of demands from various industries.
