2019. 08. 29

The Korea Toray Science Foundation(Chairman Lee Young-kwan) announced the winners of the second KTSF Award and the recipients of the Science and Technology Research Fund.

The Science and Technology Award selects and awards researchers who have made outstanding achievements throughout their lives in the basic and application sectors of the chemical and materials fields and greatly contributed to the development of related academic and industrial fields, and supports research funds for creative and highly potential tasks.

Youn Joo-young, chair professor of chemistry and nanoscience at Ewha Womans University, and Lee Doo-sung, professor of chemical engineering/molecular engineering at Sungkyunkwan University, will be selected for the basic section of the Science and Technology Award, and the winners will be awarded 100 million won in prize money and a plaque, respectively.

Yoon Joo-young, chair professor, is recognized as a top researcher in the field of designing, synthesizing fluorescent probes that can selectively detect the major substances in the body and identifying the recognition mechanism, and in the field of research on the treatment of cancer treatment for new concepts based on oil molecules.

Professor Lee Doo-sung was evaluated for his achievements in the field of bio-materials and drug delivery through his research on the development of high molecular-based nanoparticles and bio-injection gel for biomedical treatment and application to the treatment of incurable diseases such as cancer, stroke and diabetes.

It will also select four up-and-coming researchers who will pioneer new research in the long term and provide 50 million won in research funds annually for three years each year.

Kim Hee-jin, a chemistry professor at Korea University, Park Jeong-won, a chemical and biological engineering professor at Seoul National University, and Kim Bum-joon, a biochemical engineering professor at KAIST, and Kim Jeong, an energy and chemical engineering professor at Incheon National University, were selected for the basic section. The research project covers various fields such as organic synthesis, catalytic nanoparticles, polymeric particles, and healthcare.

The Science and Technology Award and Research Fund received a public offering from April to May this year and selected the final winners after screening by experts, and the award ceremony will be held on October 31.

The Korea Toray Science Foundation was established last year to contribute to the development of science and technology and foster future talent.
