The 3rd KTSF Award Ceremony is held, contributing to the development of chemical and material fields
The Korea Toray Science Foundation (Chairman Lee Young-kwan, Chairman of Toray Advanced Materials Korea Inc.,) held the 3rd Science and Technology Award and Research Fund Award Ceremony at the Korea Toray R&D Center on October 22.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the ceremony was held with only about 50 people attending, including winners, family members, foundation officials and presidents of the cast.
The winners of the Science and Technology Award were Nam Won-woo, a chair professor at Ewha Women University, and Cho Kil-won, a POSTECH professor in the application field, respectively, receiving 100 million won in prize money and a plaque.
The research fund will receive 50 million won in research funds every year for three-year support fund) every year by four teams : Cho Eun-jin, a professor at Chung-Ang University, Yi Gi-ra, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University, Kim Shin-hyun, a professor at KAIST, and Oh Joon-hak, a professor at Seoul National University.
In his welcoming speech, Chairman Lee Young-kwan said, "The Korea Toray Science Foundation will continue to encourage and support researchers in order to solve the challenges of human society in the future."
Also, Toray Nikkaku Akihiro, president of Toray, who replaced the congratulatory speech with video greetings, congratulated the winners and said he hoped the foundation activities would help promote science and technology and foster talent, and contribute to the friendship between Korea and Japan.
On the other hand, the Korea Toray Science Foundation receives science and technology awards and research tasks every year and reviews them mainly on excellence in life achievements and creativity in tasks. This year, the Science and Technology Awards selected 6 people, and the research fund continues to support 12 teams.
