The 2nd Korea Toray Science Foundation Award to Hold

The Korea Toray Science Foundation held the second Korea Toray Science Foundation Award on Oct. 31 at the conference center of the FKI building in Seoul.

More than 200 people, including Akhiro Nikkaku Toray, former minister of science, technology, information and communication, Han Min-koo, president of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Lee Young-moo, chairman of the Standing Operating Committee, and Tomofumi, the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, attended the ceremony.

Science and Technology Prize received 100 million won in prize money and prizes, respectively, as Yoon Joo-young, a chair professor at Ewha Womans University, and Lee Doo-sung, a professor of literature at Sungkyunkwan University in the field of application.

Science and Technology Grant will receive 50 million won in research funds every year for three years, with four teams -- Korea University professor Kim Hee-jin, Seoul National University professor Park Jung-won, KAIST professor Kim Bum-joon and Incheon National University professor Kim Jung.

In a welcoming speech, Akhiro Nikkaku Toray said, "We expect the Korea Toray Science Foundation to contribute to the promotion of science and technology and human resources in Korea, and to further enhance understanding and cooperation between Korea and Japan."

In addition, former Minister Yoo Young-min said in his congratulatory speech that he hopes to grow into a foundation that contributes to the development of Korean science and technology and human life, emphasizing the efforts of scientists to solve various social problems and respond to changes.

Following the award, Hideo Hosono, an honorary professor at Tokyo National University of Industrial Science and Technology, delivered a lecture on the influence of new materials that contribute to a sustainable society beyond the limits of existing materials, drawing great acclaim from the audience.

Meanwhile, the Korea Toray Science Foundation reviews Science and Technology Prize and Science and Technology Grant every year, focusing on excellence in their lifetime achievements and creativity in their tasks. Including last year, Science and Technology Prize selected four players, while Science and Technology Grant continues to support eight teams.
